Stack of 13 Lost-Wax-Cast Reproductions of the "Colinta" Buckle

Gary, one of our Australian customers, ordered this custom trophy-style buckle in sterling silver and brass for himself, to be molded and have lost-wax-cast reproductions made for his station (ranch) managers. We made 13 copies personalized with initials and station names. A few buckles also got the 20 year banner.

It was a challenge to incorporate all the information on the buckle and still leave room for scroll-work and design-basics.

The Cookstown orchid at the base is the state flower of Queensland, which is where Gary has part of his operation. The buckle has heavy, dark background at the bottom, with the engraving becoming lighter and airier towards the top. The checkering is a strong design element, as is the more open area at the top. The checkering actually works to anchor all the diverse elements in the buckle. The six small scrolls above the banner at the bottom are a nice detail which balances the larger scrolls required for a buckle this size. Overall, it turned out to be a very well-balanced, attractive design considering all the elements.
