The "Two Pheasants" on an early version of Neil's Tabula Rasa Channel Belt Buckle has full coverage hand engraving demonstrating beautifully the "more is less" principle of engraving; the more engraving coverage, the less reflective metal, the more subtle the overall impression becomes. Neil finds this interesting and rewarding, as his overall design approach is often "more is better", allowing for his tastefully executed, elaborate engravings.

The two pheasants are cast pieces that Neil has engraved and molded to use for appointments, see also Tabula Rasa Buckles w/Pheasants. The two birds, although different, balance the design beautifully. The engraved background design is unusual, as it grows in from the left edge instead of the base, starting out symmetrical and becoming non-symmetrical. "Two Pheasants" is truly a classic, gun-style engraved buckle, and would look great on any color strap.
