Gary is one of our Australian customers. He raises about a half-dozen different kinds of cattle across vast cattle "stations" in Australia, specializing in Charolais and Charbray. This charolais bull is one of his champions. What Neil likes about Gary, is that he uses "cowboy" as a verb.
Gary saw the engraved "Angus" buckle set from 2004 and really liked it. This design is in part based on that set, but it is updated, and Neil's engraving skill has definitely evolved. The bull itself is like a drawing, and part of the trick to making it stand out against the background is to have just the right amount of open space behind it.
There are two types of scroll-work on the buckle; one type is on the top and bottom buckle-tangs (either side of buckle opening), and is a lighter, more lineal scroll. The other type around the bull is a classic, heavier scroll. The horns are raised inlay in order to make them project out a little. Neil is starting to get in the habit of putting a design on the tip of the tongue. The small box-borders on all four pieces, but most noticeable on the keepers and tip, are also a relatively new design element for him.
