The unique, hand-crafted Fusion - Charleston 4-piece belt buckle set is part of Neil's Fusion Series for the obvious fusing of metals, but also for the more subtle fusion of East and West, classic and traditional, complex and elegant. Neil hand-crafted each of these buckles (and sets) from metal plate, bar, and wire - and each is uniquely sculpted. The Fusion - Charleston belt buckle set is true wearable art, and makes a great gift for graduation, retirement, and more.

Neil has been experimenting with different kinds of Mokume-gane of late (winter-spring 2016). The Fusion - Charleston is an unusual ranger set made from several metals; sterling silver & mokume-gane with a 14K gold quail. Mokume-gane (Japanese for "wood grained metals") is a type of Japanese married metal made from diffusion bonded laminates often used in decorating swords, in this case consisting of nickel silver, brass, and copper. The buckle is cut from one solid piece of Mokume-gane, and the waves in the metal continue on the sides of the buckle creating an interesting pattern (see angled photo). The delicate quail appointment is 14K gold.

The Fusion - Charleston is completely handcrafted, and made up as he went. As the artist he is, Neil often entertains himself experimenting like this. The surface of the buckle was acid-etched creating a beautiful, wood-grain-like texture and bringing out the subtle colors in the combined metals. It was also heat-treated for an unusual patina. This fun buckle set shows character and individuality and looks great on any color ranger strap.
